Evin, what motivated you to work in the humanitarian field?

Since 2020, I have been actively involved in humanitarian work with various organizations, holding different positions. What led me down this path was a deep-seated desire to make a positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and to strive for greater justice and equality. In this field, I find a higher purpose that transcends mere financial gain, providing me with a profound sense of fulfillment and accomplishment.

Additionally, I value the cultural and social diversity that this field offers, as it provides opportunities for both personal and professional growth. In essence, humanitarian work demands strong commitment and a genuine desire to make a tangible impact on the lives of others.

What distinguishes you as a representative of humanitarian work?

I believe I am well-suited to represent humanitarian work, primarily due to the humanity that underpins my professional life. I possess strong communication, empathy, and problemsolving skills, along with practical, hands-on experience in this field. As a result, I have proven my ability to adapt and perform under pressure, with a deep understanding of both local and global contexts.

Moreover, I carry a deep passion for working towards the betterment of others. It is this desire to create a tangible positive impact that drives me in this field, which demands a focus on noble goals rather than purely material gains.

What challenges have you faced in the humanitarian field?

Throughout my journey in the humanitarian field, I have encountered a variety of challenges. One of the most significant has been the cultural and social differences among the communities I serve. These disparities required me to develop specific skills in effective communication and a heightened sensitivity to local issues and contexts.

Nevertheless, the sense of contributing tangibly to improving others' lives has been the strongest motivator for me to continue on this path. Seeing the positive impact of my work has added profound meaning to my journey and fueled my passion to face challenges with determination.

What humanitarian work experiences have left a lasting impact on you?

During one of my field visits to a shelter for those displaced by war, I noticed a group of elderly men and women sitting quietly in a secluded corner, away from the others. Their eyes were filled with fear and brokenness, as if they were carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders.

An open letter to the member states of the UN General Assembly, drawn up by UNOCHA and signed by 413 humanitarian organizations around the world, including Welthungerhilfe.

I approached an elderly man among them and we began to talk. With deep sorrow, he told me that he had lost his entire family in the indiscriminate bombing of their city. He was left alone, old, and without any support or care, as if time had abandoned him to face his pain alone.

I offered him some food and tried to provide some comfort, but what truly shook me was the broken expression on his face and the vacant look in his eyes. Those eyes had witnessed an indescribable tragedy, years of pain and loss.

At that moment, I realized the immense suffering that the elderly endure during times of war and conflict, how they lose everything—not just their possessions, but also their dignity and sense of security.

This deeply emotional encounter pushed me to work even harder to provide support and care for this often-forgotten vulnerable group. It is a moment that will remain etched in my memory and will continue to be a powerful motivator in my humanitarian efforts, no matter the challenges.

What are the joyful and inspiring moments in your humanitarian work?

One of the most joyful and inspiring moments in my humanitarian work has been fostering unity and cooperation between displaced communities and local residents in the area. I felt a deep sense of human solidarity and brotherhood, witnessing how humanity can flourish even in the darkest times. These moments of unity are among the most cherished experiences of my career.

Additionally, when I receive words of gratitude and appreciation from the people I have helped or whose lives I have impacted, it fills me with a profound sense of achievement and happiness. These simple words carry hope and gratitude, fueling my determination to continue this path, believing that what I do has a real impact on people's lives.

What motivates you to continue humanitarian work despite the risks?

Despite the risks involved in this line of work, I continue because I believe in the importance of improving the lives of others and providing the best for my family. I know that my work has a real, valuable impact on communities, and this gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and inner peace, especially when I receive support and appreciation from my spouse. While I take all necessary precautions, seeing the positive difference I make in people's lives drives me to carry on without hesitation.

Humanitarian workers are the bridge between crises and solutions, and they deserve our support and protection.
